Week 1- Shalom~Peace

Take a few minutes to watch the following video from The Bible Project over the word Shalom.

Now that you have a different understanding of the word Peace or Shalom. Read the following passages of scripture:

"For every boot of the tramping warrior in battle tumult and every garment rolled in blood will be burned as fuel for the fire. For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace."

Isaiah 9:5-6

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.

John 14:27

Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

Romans 5:1-2

For he himself is our peace, who has made us both one and has broken down in his flesh the dividing wall of hostility by abolishing the law of commandments expressed in ordinances, that he might create in himself one new man in place of the two, so making peace,

Ephesians 2:14-15

For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross.

1 Colossians 1:19-20

How does this new understanding of the word peace change the way you view these passages of scripture?

As we continue through this season of advent, may we not quickly pass by scripture just to check it off our list of things to do. Take the time to read, meditate, and understand what the scripture is talking about. Shalom is a wonderful thing. Let us give thanks to God for providing Shalom through the gift of Jesus this advent season.
