Advent Countdown Day 3

John 1:14 Hebrews 1:3 Isaiah 53:5 As we come into the last week of Advent I want to spend some time discussing the significance behind why Christmas and the birth of Christ is SO important. We have spent the last four weeks unpacking the promise that God made to us, the prophesy of the coming Savior, and the announcement of the fulfillment of the promise. So why is the birth of Jesus so important? Is it because of his miraculous conception? No. It is because God took on flesh and became human to save us from all of our sins. We see in John 1:14 the imagery that is painted for us as the prophesy is fulfilled: "And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. Christ came to dwell among us to show us the glory of God. “He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature…” (Heb. 1:3) He entered through the flesh of His very creation to be with us. This advent season we can be thankful that Christ came to show us God. He has revealed God in truth. We see God’s love and mercy displayed throughout the life of Christ. He is the perfect example that we are to follow. Not only that, but He willingly gave His life so that we could be given the choice of eternal life in heaven over eternal damnation in hell. Christ became flesh so that He could be the perfect sacrifice for our atonement. "But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities;upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed." Isaiah 53:5 Christ took on flesh to bear our wrath so that we could be reconciled to God. He was pierced for our transgressions and crushed for our sins so that we could have peace with God and be truly healed. This is the reason why the birth of Christ is so amazing. Not only did God become flesh but He became the perfect sacrifice for us by fulfilling the long awaited prophesy, living a perfect life, dying a sinners death on the cross, and coming back to life to crush sin. Because of Him, we can experience true healing. I encourage you to spend time with God. Seek out scripture and pray. May we use scripture to adore, confess, praise, and thank God. May we fall in adoration at the feet of Jesus and confess that we need Him to heal us. Then may this drive us to praise and thank Him for bearing the wrath of hell in our place so that we may be set free. We have been given the greatest gifts from God. Not only has He provided the perfect sacrifice through Jesus, but He has also given us direct access to Himself through prayer.
