John 1:14
Hebrews 1:3
Isaiah 53:5
As we come into the last week of Advent I want to spend some time discussing the significance behind why Christmas and the birth of Christ is SO important.
We have spent the last four weeks unpacking the promise that God made to us, the prophesy of the coming Savior, and the announcement of the fulfillment of the promise. So why is the birth of Jesus so important? Is it because of his miraculous conception? No. It is because God took on flesh and became human to save us from all of our sins. We see in John 1:14 the imagery that is painted for us as the prophesy is fulfilled:

"And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.

Christ came to dwell among us to show us the glory of God. “He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature…” (Heb. 1:3) He entered through the flesh of His very creation to be with us. This advent season we can b...

Take a few minutes to watch the following video from The Bible Project over the word Chara

Now that you have a different understanding of the word Joy  or Chara,  read the following passages of scripture:

So he brought his people out with joy,
    his chosen ones with singing.

And the ransomed of the Lord shall return

and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.

Isaiah 51:11

And the angel said to them,

I bring you good news

of great joy

that will be for all

the people.

Luke 2:10

In that same hour he rejoiced in the Holy Spirit and said,

“I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth,

that you have hidden these things from the wise

and understanding and revealed them

to little children;

yes, Father, for such was your gracious will.

Luke 10:21

Rejoice and...

For the next 5 days, there will be a new advent post each day. This will lead us right up to Christmas eve. I hope that these advent posts have been encouraging to you in this Advent season. If you are just joining us, I would encourage you to either check back each day for the next 5 days or join our mailing list to have these emails sent directly to you.

As we are now in the third week of Advent, I hope that taking time out to study God's Word and how faithful He has been to fulfill his promises has been come a regular occurrence for you. Today I want to encourage you as we await the return of the Messiah. We see in Exodus that after spending time with God, Moses' face shown.

"When Moses came down from Mount Sinai, with the two tablets of the testimony in his hand as he came down from the mountain, Moses did not know that the skin of his face shone because he had been talking with God."

Exodus 34:29

When we are spending time with God and seeking to know him on a personal level, it...

Take a few minutes to watch the following video from The Bible Project over the word Yakhal.

Now that you may have a different understanding of the word hope or Yakhal/Qavah. Read through the following passages of scripture:

"I will wait for the Lord, who is hiding his face from the house of Jacob, and I will hope in him."

Isaiah 8:17

"I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, and in his word I hope; my soul waits for the Lord more than watchmen for the morning, more than watchmen for the morning  O Israel, hope in the Lord! For with the Lord there is steadfast love, and with him plentiful redemption. And he will redeem Israel from all his iniquities."

Psalm 30:5-8

“And now, O Lord, for what do I wait?
    My hope is in you."

Psalm 39:7

“Again the Lord spoke to Ahaz, “Ask a sign of the Lord your God; let it be deep as Sheol or high as heaven.” But Ahaz said, “I will not ask, and I will not put the Lord to the test.” And he said, “Hear then, O house of David! Is it too little for you to weary men, that you weary my God also? Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.”
‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭7:10-14‬ ‭

In this passage of Isaiah we read about the signs of Immanuel that was prophesied through Isaiah to King Ahaz. To strengthen the faith of the king for an upcoming battle, the Lord invited the king to ask him for a sign. Surprisingly, Ahaz declined. So to bolster the faith of the people in the whole house of David, he gave them a glorious sign. We see this depicted in verse 14 with the for-telling of the virgin birth of Immanuel.

Immanuel means "God with us." Ahaz certainly did not fully comprehend this sign but we can look back at this prophesy...
